I'm a ceramicist and floral designer with a point of view shaped by my education in architecture. This training greatly influences how I design and create, however after working in the architectural field for a number of years I missed the act of working with my hands and so I moved into floral and event design. While working in the floral and event business I also rediscovered my love of ceramics. It’s been a great joy, using my hands to craft functional and decorative pottery! My goal is to create objects, arrangements, and installations that speak to others of nature, process, and place.
No matter what I'm working on I try to look around me for influence and inspiration. Having grown up in rural Ohio and having a penchant for the outdoors, that means what's around me is often coming from the natural and cultivated world. I’m encouraged by the natural world for its potential in not only beauty but in the meanings we ascribe to it. The ephemeral, fragile, and irreplaceable qualities of nature are touchstones for my work. I believe that what makes something real and of value is its inability to be replaced. This is why I try to make every pot unique–to help ground us in reality while the world around us feels less and less real.
